Remember: It’s Just A Big ‘Chicken’

“It took me three weeks to stuff the turkey. I stuffed it through the beak.”~Phyllis Diller

How has your week been?

Mine has been a mixture of pre-holiday traditions, pre-paring for Thanksgiving

and…

a little decorating

Are there traditions that you have which signify the start of the Holidays?

A Holiday tradition Joe and I began early in our marriage was attending a performance of The Nutcracker Ballet.

🍁

Since moving to the Oregon coast, Thanksgiving has brought the opportunity for new experiences. Each Thanksgiving seems to bring different people to the table.

This year Joe is preparing the worlds greatest turkey, gravy, & dressing.😉

I’m preparing the world’s best broccoli rice cheese casserole. 😉

with that being said…

an important thing I’ve learned and try to practice is to let go of unrealistic expectations.

Recently I  read a great article about how not to stress out over Thanksgiving (specifically preparing a turkey) the suggestion was to think of it turkey as a big chicken. and skip all the fuss. What’s not important is feeling that things have to be perfect. Thanksgiving is about connecting. Sharing ourselves with others. It’s really a giving feast where everyone is asked to bring something and then gathering together to share in the banquet of giving thanks.

 Thanksgiving Blessings!

now for that recipe….

  1. Joe says:

    Happy Thanksgiving!
I am grateful for you and your wonderful posts!

  2. Jenny Bonynge says:

I have vowed to not put up any Christmas decorations until Dec. 1st as that way I will extend the feeling of thankfulness that is the focus of our Thanksgiving celebration. It also helps delay that anxious feeling that seems to make it’s way into me as Christmas approaches…the stores get crowded as well as the roads. The Nutcracker is a delightful way to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas! I’m sure your turkey and casserole were delicious!

Jenny that’s a great idea! living here on the coast everything is slower and really lends itself to enjoying this time of year in a civilized way. 😉
    I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.xo
