Merry Christmas! And may you feel a great deal of joy. After all the intense preparations, we can all relax at home. There’s a lasagne baking in the oven. Dinner tonight by candlelight. And, how about a merry excursion at eight. I think I have just the perfect one. Come along. You won’t be disappointed.

Less than an hour away from our cottage on the Oregon coast the charming Shore Acres State Park embraces the Yuletide spirit.

Colorfully decorated gardens, and trees are lined with over 300,000 lights, dozens of small landscape lights, 26 large holiday trees, dozens of lighted sculptures, entertainment in the Pavilion,

and the festive open house where you can enjoy hot cider, coffee, punch and cookies.

This community tradition began in 1987 when the Friends of Shore Acres decided to string a few lights to help celebrate the holidays. That first season, 6,000 miniature lights, one large Christmas tree, and the decorated and open Garden House drew 9,000 visitors. Today, the festive open house attracts 40,000 to 50,000 plus visitors each season. Numbers vary with the weather and visitors come from almost every state and many different countries. If you find yourself holiday~ing on the Oregon coast, this is a must see.

It’s always amazing to me what we can find in our own backyards, if we only open our eyes and see! Thank you for sharing your evening of fun with us. Always extra special to share a time like this with a friend and neighbor. Had neighbors invite me for dinner today because they knew only some of my family members could be with me this year, and that was on Christmas Eve Day and Night. Had not had a Christmas with small children in years, and they shared their four grandchildren with me. AND the grandchildren share their special Christmas present of a brand new yellow lab puppy with us. What a delightful afternoon. Seeing Christmas through a child’s eyes is something we all need to remember and experience, often.

Sounds like you have lovely neighbors.Blessings. ..♡

Hi Jenny! You most likely have visited Shore Acres during Christmas, and know how special it is. I had visited during the summer, and so beautiful too. The holiday lights are so magical. Happy New Year Jenny!
